Enter Tibet from Nepal

To travel from Nepal to Tibet, the formality is a bit different than to travel from mainland China to Tibet. You need two official documents called China Group Visa & Tibet Travel Permit (TTP).

Step 1: In Lhasa, we will apply you Tibet Permit, as well as an official Invitation Letter for China Group Visa. And we will forward this Invitation Letter to our Nepali partner, with it, our Nepali agent can then do China Group Visa in Kathmandu for you after your arrival with your original passport & 1 passport-sized headshot (your presence is not required).
China Group Visa ≠ China Visa. The usual China visa is of no use here. You can’t enter Tibet from Nepal with a normal China Visa, and once China Group Visa is applied, any previously applied China Visa will be automatically expired. China Group Visa comes in a separate piece of paper, not in your passport.

Step 2: You can then enter Nepal from Tibet with this China Group Visa alone, either fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa or travel overland from Rasuwagadi to Gyirong. At Lhasa Airport or Gyirong Port, you will be hold to wait until your Tibetan guide presents Tibetan authority your original Tibet Travel Permit (TTP), and you can then leave Lhasa Airport or Gyirong Port with your Tibetan guide and start your journey in Tibet.
